Dear colleagues
We would like to invite you to FORUM 3D, which will take place in Heidelberg within the framework
of the 7th Annual Meeting of the International Society for Computer Assisted Orthopaedic
Surgery (CAOS-International).
Six years after the successful introduction of 3D intraoperative fluoroscopy the number of its users
has increased continuously. This technology is employed primarily during the treatment of fractures
of the joints, pelvis, and spine. These devices ideally fit with intraoperative navigation systems
leading to both, an improvement of surgical precision and a reduction of intraoperative radiation
exposure.
Using such modern imaging modalities in the OR, however, presents also a new challenge to the
surgeon as well as the OR staff. Intraoperatively acquired images need to be processed and evaluated
under time pressure. In addition the technical handling of these devices is non-trivial and requires
intensive training of the staff.
FORUM 3D is taking place for the 4th time and it is a novelty that it is embedded
within an international congress. It is the aim of the symposium to promote the exchange of experience
among the users and to provide a suitable environment to those who wish to explore the potential of
3D intraoperative imaging, get a market overview, or want to learn about the technological requirements.
We are looking forward to your participation and to a fruitful exchange of experiences.
We have applied for credits for continuing medical education.
